FSSAI is a legal administrative body that was set up under the ministry of health and family welfare in 2006, the aim of FSSAI is to regulate and set guidelines for the Food industry in India. Therefore all kind of businesses that deals in food items must obtain an FSSAI registration for their operations in the country.
FSSAI registration is a unique 14-digit number issued by licensing and registration department of the Food safety and standard authority of India to all the concerned FBOs.

The FSSAI license and registration are classified into three types.
FBOs having an annual turnover of up to Rs. 12 lakh are classified under FSSAI basic registration as per the eligibility criteria of the FSS Act.
FBOs with a turnover of more than Rs. 12 lakh to upto 20 crores per annum are required to have an FSSAI State license in Kochi.
Eligibility for giving a central license depends upon the nature of FBOs, FBOs with annual revenue of more than Rs. 20 crores or functioning in more than one state need an FSSAI central license as per the guidelines.

Apply for FSSAI registration in Kochi online through the FosCos web portal as per your KOB, fill out the necessary forms respectively and upload all required documents, once the application is successfully submitted, you will get an application reference number to track the status of your application.

The FSSAI authorities will act on your applications within 7 working days and if the application is denied then an assessment will be held by the Food safety officer.
After a satisfactory assessment of the premises and verification by the food safety officer, permission will be given by authorities to the concerned department for the issuance of FSSAI registration.
The FSSAI FOOD license will be issued by licensing authorities within 30 days. A soft copy of the registration number with the logo will be provided on your registered email ID.
As per the FSS guidelines the registration & license fee for FSSAI is classified into 3 classes.
Also, in addition burden of 18% goods and services tax on fssai fees and penalty has to be carry by the applicant.

Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of ₹1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.
