BEE Registration for RAC (Cassette, Floor Standing Tower, Corner AC)

The guidelines accompanying the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) standards make it compulsory for Room Air Conditioners (RACs) to be registered under the prescribed Standards and Labeling programs introduced under the Energy Conservation Act of 2001. These programs are designed to promote energy efficiency and ensure compliance with national energy conservation goals. Over time, the program made it mandatory for manufacturers to display a star rating on their products, which ranges from 1 to 5, with 5 stars indicating the highest level of energy efficiency.

Under these guidelines, RACs must undergo rigorous testing and accreditation from BEE-accredited laboratories. The tests assess energy consumption, cooling capacity, and overall efficiency. Following this, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency evaluates the results to determine compliance with its standards. Once approved, the products are awarded a star rating based on their energy consumption levels. This star rating system assists consumers in making informed decisions about energy usage and selecting RACs that best suit their needs while minimizing electricity costs. • Validity period for the BEE Certificate is for 3 years from the date of issuance. A renewal agreement is sent by the BEE to the registered email 6 months before the expiry date. To receive the renewal, the manufacturer must reply within 3 months.
