Eligibility Criteria for NSIC Registration

Not all businesses can apply for NSIC (National Small Industries Corporation) registration. The scheme is specifically designed for MSMEs and SMEs that meet certain financial, operational, and compliance requirements. Below are the key eligibility conditions for applying.

  1. The enterprise must be a Micro or Small enterprise under the revised MSME classification effective 1 April 2025 via Ministry Notification S.O. 1364(E) dated 21 March 2025. Medium enterprises are not eligible for NSIC Single Point Registration Scheme (SPRS).
  2. In addition, The business entity must be registered with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and have a minimum net worth of Rs. 25 lakhs.
  3. MSMEs that have already begun commercial production (Startups) but have not completed one year of operation are eligible for Provisional Registration for one year. After one year, MSMEs can apply for complete registration.
  4. Note: Provisional registration certificate is valid for one year and issued to MSME with a limit of Rs. 5 Lakh.
  5. Micro & Small Enterprises (MSMEs) having Udyog Adhaar Memorandum (UAM) and possessing their workshop or on lease basis are eligible for registration.
  6. Any manufacturer or service provider with a valid GST number and meeting the above criteria can apply for NSIC registration online.
  7. Eligible firms must have commercial and technological advancements to provide services to government agencies like defense, railways, PSUs, and central and state government departments.
  8. Traders are not eligible for registration under the NSIC schemes.

Revised MSME Classification

MSME investment and turnover thresholds was revised by Govt. Of India vide Ministry Notification S.O. 1364(E) dated 21 March 2025 effective from 1st April 2025. An enterprise must satisfy both investment limit and annual turnover limit to qualify for a given category. Exceeding either limit can lead to enterprise moving into the next higher category. Only domestic annual turnover is counted when applying for threshold; export turnover is excluded from annual turnover classification purposes.

As per the revised MSME classification 2025, medium enterprises holding valid Udyam Registration are not eligible for SPRS and do not qualify for EMD exemption or purchase preference in government tenders.
