The Indian civil aviation industry is among the fastest-growing in the world and is projected to surpass the UK market in the near future. With this growth, food and hospitality businesses at airport premises—such as catering units, food courts, lounges, and in-flight food service providers—have also seen rapid expansion. To regulate and ensure food safety at such critical hubs, the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has made it mandatory for all food businesses operating at airports to obtain a Central FSSAI License.
Given the rising number of air travelers and the increasing demand for quality food services at airports, the food business ecosystem in aviation continues to thrive. To maintain food hygiene, safety, and compliance, Food Business Operators (FBOs) at airport premises must register under FSSAI and adhere to its guidelines before commencing operations.
Acquiring an FSSAI Central License is not only a legal necessity but also enhances brand credibility, boosts consumer trust, and opens up opportunities for larger contracts within the aviation sector. From kiosk vendors to full-scale catering companies, all food operators must meet the prescribed safety standards to legally operate within airport boundaries.
