India's food safety standard authority is a statutory body that was established in the year 2006 under the ministry of health and family welfare to govern and monitor the food industry in India. FSSAI registration in Chandigarh or FSSAI food license is a 14-digit number given to all registered food business operators, such as food manufacturing units, Hotel businesses, vendors, and e-commerce FBOs as per the FSS act 2006 and regulations.
Criteria for FSSAI registration are defined as per the FSS act 2006, although all Food business operators are required to have an FSSAI registration in Chandigarh. But the food license and registration are allocated based on their nature of business and annual turnover, and capacity.

The FSSAI basic registration is usually for petty sellers and small food business operators whose annual turnover does not exceed ₹12 lakh.
FBOs with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore are required to obtain an FSSAI state license. Food manufacturers must get this license regardless of turnover or capacity.
According to FSSAI guidelines, businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crore or operating in multiple states must obtain an FSSAI central license.

Within 7 business days, FSSAI authorities will respond to your application, if the application is rejected, then an inspection will be held at the premises as per the FSS regulations.
After a satisfactory inspection of the premises and verification by the food safety officer, FSO will issue clearance to the concerned department for further process.
The FSSAI registration will be provided by the authorities within 30 business days after the clearance. A softcopy will be sent to your email address along with the FSSAI logo, which can be used to display during business hours.
FSSAI Basic Registration applies to small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh. Below are the required documents:
FBOs with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore must obtain an FSSAI State License.
FBOs with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crore or operating in multiple states must have an FSSAI Central License.
As per the FSS guidelines the registration & license fee for FSSAI is classified into 3 classes.
Also, in addition burden of 18% goods and services tax on fssai fees and penalty has to be carry by the applicant.

Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of 1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.

FSSAI registration in Chandigarh is valid for up to a maximum of 5 years and a minimum of 1 year, FBOs can take any of such types of registration.
The renewal application can be filled 180-30 days before the date of expiry.
If any FBO does not files for FSSAI renewal till 30 days prior to the due date then a late fee of Rs. 100 per day will be charged along with the standard FSSAI registration and license fee.
FBOs filling for renewal from the 1st to 90th-day after the day of expiry, then they shall be fined 3 times the original annual fee respectively and 5 times if they apply after the 90th day from the due date
No renewal shall be allowed after 180 days from the original day of expiry.

Inadequate food products: if any food business operator in Chandigarh is found selling, manufacturing, or in a possession of food articles that are deemed non-consumable for humans as per the regulations of FSSAI, then such FBOs are liable to penalties, of not more than Rs. 1 lakh.
Adulteration of food: As per the FSS regulations 2011 and guidelines, adulteration of food is a serious criminal offense and any person found indulging in such practices shall be fined up to Rs. 10 lakh or get a jail term.
Unhygienic condition: In the preparation of any kind of food hygiene is the most important factor, therefore, FSSAI has given guidelines for personal hygiene as well as cleanness of the premises, FBOs found violating these guidelines are liable for a fine of not more than Rs. 1 lakh.
