What is FSSAI?


The food safety and standard authority is a governing body that regulates, governs and issues FSSAI registration in Goa or FSSAI license to all the food business operators. The registration is a 14-digit numerical number assigned to FBOs by the food licensing authority; after registration, it contains all the necessary details about the food manufacturers. All FBOs are required to obtain an FSSAI registration accordingly.

As per the food safety and standard act 2006, all food businesses are eligible to obtain an FSSAI registration in Goa, and the criteria for registration depends on the nature of FBO and annual turnover.
Such as;

  • Hawkers, Street food vendors, and Dhaba owners have a turnover of less than Rs. 12 lakh per annum.
  • Hotel owners, Food manufacturers, and vegetable oil processing units.
  • Proprietary food business owners, transporters, and storage facilities.
  • Slaughter-houses, cold storage units, milling units, and catering services.

These are the following types of registration allocated to FBOs as per their criteria.

Basic FSSAI registration is the entry-level food license. All small food businesses having a turnover not more than Rs. 12 lakh per annum are liable to file for basic registration.

  • Dairy owners with limited capacity

Food business operators like manufacturers, import-export operators, restaurants, and processing units having a turnover of more than 12 LPA up to 20 crores per annum are required to have an FSSAI state licence in Goa.

FBOs have a turnover of more than Rs. 20cr per annum, or operating in multiple states, such FBOs require FSSAI central license from the central licensing authority. For FBOs who are working at the government premises.

  9. Certificate obtained under COOP-act 1861 and multi-state act 2002 is necessary
  10. Raw materials source must be provided
  11. Chemical test report of water in case it is used as an ingredient

FSSAI online registration process


Step-1 Online Application & Documentation

To get an online FSSAI registration in Goa or FSSAI license, applicants must file a request on the FosCos website and fill out a form A or form B, respectively, as per the nature of their food business. Must submit all the necessary documents online on the FosCos web application. After submission of fees, you will get an Application registration number which can be used to track the status of the application using our FSSAI status checking tool.

Step-2 Inspection by FSSAI

After the completion of the filing of the online application, FSSAI authorities will act on the application within 7 days as per the guidelines. If the respective body rejects the application, then an inspection will be held by the FSSAI food safety officer for further process.

Step-3 Approval

The food safety officer will give clearance only after inspection of the premises. Once the approval is given, the licensing authority will proceed to issue the FSSAI registration.

Step-4 Issuance of registration

The licensing authorities will issue an FSSAI license within 30 days after the completion of the process. and will provide the 14-digit license/ FSSAI registration number on the registered Email address to the respective applicants.

As per the FSS guidelines the registration & license fee for FSSAI is classified into 3 classes.

  • For basic registration fee would be 100₹ per annuam
  • For State license it would range from 2000-5000₹ each year
  • For central Fssai food license is 7500₹ + 18% GST annually

Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of ₹1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.
