The Food safety and standard authority of India (FSSAI) is an apex authority that regulates and sets guidelines for food safety and standards across the nation. FSSAI is also responsible for allocating food licence and FSSAI registration in Varanasi to respective food business operators as per the nature and criteria of their food company.

FSSAI licence or registration is a 14-digit unique numeric identity number given to all registered FBOs and the FSSAI logo. The registration number contains the details of Food manufacturers and locations and assures customers about the quality of food products of the respective brand. As per the guidelines of FSSAI, all FBOs are mandated to show their registration number on their food products. In the case of food outlets, they are expected to display the FSSAI license number in appropriate places during business hours.

FSSAI has sub-classified their FSSAI registration/license into 3 categories as per the FBOs criteria. These three following categories are:
The FSSAI basic registration is the simplest form of licensing given to petty food business operators having a turnover of not more than Rs. 12 lakh rupees per annum.
Such as;
Food business operators have a turnover of more than Rs. 12 but less than Rs. 20 crore per annum is required to have FSSAI State Licence in Varanasi as per the FSSAI regulations.
FBOs have an annual turnover of more than Rs. 20 crore, or operating in more than one state, such FBOs must obtain FSSAI central license from the central licensing authority (CLA).
To obtain an online FSSAI license in Varanasi or FSSAI registration, applicants must submit their application on the FosCos website and fill out a form-A and Form-B accordingly, per their criteria KOBs. Must submit all the documents online through the FosCos portal.
After filing the online application, FSSAI authorities will act on the request within 7 days as per the rules. If the application is rejected, then an inspection will be held by the food safety officer for further process.
After the satisfactory inspection and document verification by the FSSAI authorities will approve the IssuanceIssuance of an FSSAI license or the FSSAI registration by the licencing authority.
The 14-digit FSSAI registration/license will be issued through email within 25-30 days after the completion of approval and verification.
As per the FSS guidelines the registration & license fee for FSSAI is classified into 3 classes.
Also, in addition burden of 18% goods and services tax on fssai fees and penalty has to be carry by the applicant.

Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of ₹1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.
