Thus the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced FSSAI registration for food businesses in Delhi.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the regulatory body for food safety and standards. It is responsible for enacting and implementing the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards regulation, 2011 to provide a regulatory mechanism for food safety and standards in India. FSSAI has categorised FBOs into three categories for registration and licensing depending upon the nature, size and turnover of the businesses.
Food business operators who manufacture or sell food items either themselves or via a retailer, hawker, itinerant vendor or street food stall owner having a turnover not more than 12 Lakh rupees per annum such businesses are eligible for basic registration.

Food business operators such as manufacturers, import-export operators, restaurants, and processing units having a turnover of more than 12 LPA ( Lakh per annum ) up to 20 crores per annum are required to have an FSSAI state licence to operate in Delhi.

All food business operators are eligible for a central licence if their annual turnover exceeds more than 20 crores per annum or if they are operating in central government agencies such as railways, airports, and seaports.

FSSAI has introduced a new upgraded FSSAI-FosCOS web application for easy filling and submission of food registration and licensing applications from individuals/corporates who want to operate in this industry.
Commence for the submission of application on the FosCos portal as per the nature of
business and fill all the necessary detail of respective forms A. Fill form B in case of
state and central licensing as per the requirements of FBOs.
Authorities are bound to either accept or reject the application within 7 working days.
After the satisfactory inspection of the business premise and document verification, approval will be granted for issuing of FSSAI registration or licence depending upon the nature of the business.
Once the approval is granted FSSAI will issue a registration/licence certification with a unique 14 digit number which shall be displayed during business hours and must be printed on all the products.

FSSAI issues registration/licence for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years.
Applicants can file for FSSAI renewal 180 days before the due date.
In the case renewal of a license is not filed till 30 days before the expiry date, a late fee of INR 100 per day is to be paid by FBO, along with the renewal fee.
In the case of FBOs filling for FSSAI renewal from the 1st to 90th-day after the day of expiry, then they shall be charged 3 times the original annual fee respectively and 5 times if they appear after the 90th day from the day of expiry.

According to the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, the following penalties have been laid out for non-compliance with FSSAI in Delhi.
The minimum penalty is Rs.1 lakh per unit or 2 years imprisonment or both.
The maximum penalty can go up to Rs. 5 lakhs per unit.
For deceptive advertisement of food products penalties can go up to 10 lakh rupees.
For selling substandard food petty sellers will be fined up to 2,5000 rupees.
Improper or no display of registration number/ licence on food products is a criminal offence and can lead to jail or cancellation of registration.
