FSSAI Registration online in Delhi - Procedure, Documents Required, Fees

Delhi being the capital and metropolitan city of the country has blended its unique food industry and street food culture. So it has become very necessary for authorities to regulate the food industry for the safety of consumers.

Thus the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced FSSAI registration for food businesses in Delhi.

The registration is mandatory and it will ensure the safety of food sold by businesses, and will also help the authorities to ensure that food products conform to safety standards and are not adulterated.

The FSSAI registration in Delhi for food businesses will be similar to that for small and large-scale food manufacturing businesses and can be done easily through FSSAI-FosCos online portal.

Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) is a government institution that operates to ensure control over the quality of food products in India. As it administers its affairs through various legally binding guidelines and regulations, food businesses need to be compliant with them to operate securely.

FSSAI has categorised FBOs into three categories for registration and licensing depending upon the nature, size and turnover of the businesses.

Basic registration

Food business operators who manufacture or sell food items either themselves or via a retailer, hawker, itinerant vendor or street food stall owner having a turnover not more than 12 Lakh rupees per annum such businesses are eligible for basic registration.

FSSAI State licence

Food business operators such as manufacturers, import-export operators, restaurants, and processing units having a turnover of more than 12 LPA ( Lakh per annum ) up to 20 crores per annum are required to have an FSSAI state licence to operate in Delhi.

FSSAI Central licence

All food business operators are eligible for a central licence if their annual turnover exceeds more than 20 crores per annum or if they are operating in central government agencies such as railways, airports, and seaports.

Step-4 Issue of FSSAI registration/licence

Once the approval is granted FSSAI will issue a registration/licence certification with a unique 14 digit number which shall be displayed during business hours and must be printed on all the products.

Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of ₹1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.

1. FSSAI issues registration/licence for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years.

2. Applicants can file for FSSAI renewal 180 days before the due date.

3. In the case renewal of a license is not filed till 30 days before the expiry date, a late fee of INR 100 per day is to be paid by FBO, along with the renewal fee.

4. In the case of FBOs filling for FSSAI renewal from the 1st to 90th-day after the day of expiry, then they shall be charged 3 times the original annual fee respectively and 5 times if they appear after the 90th day from the day of expiry.

According to the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, the following penalties have been laid out for non-compliance with FSSAI in Delhi.

1. The minimum penalty is Rs.1 lakh per unit or 2 years imprisonment or both.

2. The maximum penalty can go up to Rs. 5 lakhs per unit.

3. For deceptive advertisement of food products penalties can go up to 10 lakh rupees.

4. For selling substandard food petty sellers will be fined up to 2,5000 rupees.

5. Improper or no display of registration number/ licence on food products is a criminal offence and can lead to jail or cancellation of registration.
