The FSSAI is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is responsible for issuing FSSAI registration and safeguarding consumers' health by ensuring that food products meet certain safety and quality standards.
All food businesses must obtain a license or registration from the FSSAI. The food business operator must apply for the license or registration in the prescribed form and the prescribed fees to the licensing authority. The FSSAI has prescribed different types of licenses and registrations for different food businesses based on their nature and scale of operation. FSSAI registration ensures that your premises, equipment, and food handling practices meet food safety standards. FSSAI registration number is a 14-digit unique licensing number allocated by FSSAI to concerning food business operators as per their eligibility criteria described under the FSS act 2006.

The FSSAI license is classified into two categories, i.e. State License and Central License, depending upon the nature and size of food businesses.
FBOs must file an Online FSSAI registration form on FosCos respectively according to the nature of their businesses and upload all the required documents and supporting documents along with the registration fee. The FSSAI food safety officer will conduct a thorough inspection of the premises to ensure that all the necessary compliance and food safety norms are followed.
After the adequate assessment of the business premise and document, verification will be approved issuing of FSSAI registration or licence, depending upon the nature of the business, by the Food safety officer to concerned licensing authorities.
Once the approval is granted, FSSAI will issue a registration/licence unique 14-digit numerical numbers, which shall display during business hours and must be printed on all the products.
Concerned Food business operators need to pay the FSSAI registration fees and FSSAI food license fee at the time of submitting the registration form on FosCos website

Note: The aforementioned Fees is exclusive of GST.
Note : As per the new norm of FSSAI. The applicants are required to pay only Initial fee of ₹1000 + 18% GST on it for their FSSAI licenses. However once the application is processed and passed by the licensing authorities then the rest of the differential amount i,e respective license fee along with differential GST has to be paid by the applicant within 30 working days. If the applicant failed to pay the amount then approval will be auto rejected.
All licensed and registered food business operators under the FSSAI must comply with the rules and regulations laid down by FSSAI under the FSS act, 2006.

FSSAI registration renewal is as important as getting a new registration. The license is issued for the validity of 1-5 years. Hence all the food business operators must file for FSSAI renewal 30 days before the due date. FBOs who fail to renew their FSSAI registration shall be deemed unfit to commence any business as per guidelines.
