GeM Vendor Assessment is one aspect of vendor validation on the GeM portal. It is for the Quality Assurance of a vendor and its products and services. It is a process for the Evaluation of Vendors and their performance on various predefined parameters. The objective of the Vendor Assessment is to recognize and develop reliable vendors so that they consistently meet or exceed the expectations and requirements of the buyers. Vendor Assessment is mandatory for all OEMs, excluding the exempted category.

The Vendor Assessment is a crucial process carried out by RITES, a leading public sector consultancy and engineering firm in India, at various parameters. Potential vendors who want to sell their goods and services on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) Portal are invited to participate in this evaluation, which aims to analyze their infrastructure, capabilities, and compliance.
Once the Vendor Assessment is completed, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can access their exclusive OEM Panel and proceed to list their offerings on the GeM Portal.

The Vendor Assessment is done in two forms: Desktop Assessment and Video Assessment.
The Vendor Assessment fee for the GeM certification is about ₹ 11,200 with 18% GST on it. However, the applicants are also required to deposit caution money prior to performing activities on the portal. The eligibility for the Caution money deposit depends on the seller's turnover.

Sellers start the Vendor Assessment process by filling out an online application and submitting the Vendor Assessment fee directly to QCI, priced at Rs.11,200 + 18% GST. This fee, which is non-refundable, must be paid through the GeM portal.
