The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a department under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, food, and public distribution. The objective of BIS is to regulate the quality of manufactured and imported products in India. BIS offers multiple types of quality certification in India. It was initially introduced by Meity “The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology“. As per the guidelines of MeitY, all the manufacturers and importers of products listed under the CRS scheme are required to obtain mandatory BIS CRS certification for their products to commence business in India.

Documents required for CRS registration
These are the list of documents needed to be submitted during the time of application. Applicants are required to produce all the duly signed documents along with application fee.
- Nomination Letter of AIR
- Test Report for the product
- Undertaking regarding the product
- ISO Certificate of the manufacturer
- Product manual of the applied devices
- Trademark Certificate if available or required
- Testing documents such as filled CCL and CDF
- Authorized Indian Representative and Affidavit (In case of Foreign Manufacturer)
- Trademark Authorisation Letter, in case the brand, is not owned by the manufacturer
- If the signatory person is other than the head of the manufacturing facility, then submit the Authorisation Letter
Cost of BIS compulsory registration scheme
The application fee for CRS certification is INR 1,000 only. However, the processing fee with one test report is around Rs. 25,000 along with an annual registration fee of ?2,000 which will be valid for up to 2 years.
Note:-
- The cost of additional test report applicants is required to pay an additional fee of ?10,000/per test.
