EPR, which stands for ‘Extended Producers Responsibility’, has the responsibility to overlook the plastic waste produced by the producers, importers and brand owners (PIBOs) throughout the pre-consumer and post-consumer stages. The Central Pollution Control Board of India had introduced the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) for different categories of waste. The EPR must make configurative measures to curb plastic waste of different categories while following the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2022. Recycling, re-use and disposal of flexible plastic waste that is generated by producers, importers and brand owners (PIBOs) is ensured by CPCB EPR registration and annual target as per the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2022.

After successful registration with the CPCB/SPCBs an entity must implement EPR action plans and focus on completing the annual EPR target to avoid penalties.
As per the CPCB guidelines, producers, importers and brand owners (PIBOs) have to comply with the CPCB Rules and manage the flexible plastic waste with EPR authorized "plastic waste processors". Plastic waste processors (PWPs) certificate is mandatory for the importers which is granted on the basis of waste amount that is processed by PWPs.
PIBOs who wish to acquire the EPR registration certificate to manage flexible plastic waste are required to provide all the above listed documents.
Note: After successful application with CPCB or respective SPCP/PCCs authorities then it will take around 15 days for its commencement.
