In Bihar, establishing an NGO is a great way to promote social causes and improve communities all throughout the state. Whether you want to work in the fields of education, healthcare, rural development, women's empowerment, or environmental protection, registering your non-profit gives your projects a solid legal basis.
NGOs in Bihar can be registered under one of three primary forms: a Section 8 Company, a Trust, or a Society. Each has different legal requirements and registration procedures. A trust is regulated by the Indian Trusts Act and needs a minimum of two trustees. According to the Societies Registration Act of 1860, a society must have a minimum of seven members. For those seeking a corporate-style structure with a non-profit focus, a Section 8 Company is appropriate.
By registering an NGO in Bihar, your organization gains legal recognition, which makes it possible to apply for government programs, receive donations, open a bank account, and gain the trust of stakeholders and donors. Members' identification and proof of address, the Memorandum of Association (MOA), the Rules & Regulations, and passport-size photographs are usually among the necessary paperwork.
The process has gotten easier, quicker, and more accessible with the availability of online NGO registration. You can prevent mistakes and guarantee a seamless registration process by seeking professional advice.

NGO registration in Bihar is the official process of forming a non-governmental organization that operates for non-profit purposes such as education, healthcare, rural development, women empowerment, and other social welfare initiatives. It gives your organization a legal identity, enabling it to carry out activities lawfully and transparently across the state.
By registering your NGO, you can establish credibility, gain legal recognition, and create a structured approach to achieving your social mission. It also helps ensure your organization complies with necessary laws and builds a foundation for future growth and support.
Whether you are working at the grassroots or planning large-scale community programs, NGO registration is a crucial step in making a lasting impact in Bihar.
There are three types of NGO registration, and each of them are governed by different laws:
Section 8 company is the most popular form of NGO registration and has more credibility among donors, government and other stakeholders. It has more benefits than traditional charitable institutions and is registered under the Companies Act, 2013. The main objective of Section 8 company is to promote arts, sports, commerce, science, religion, social welfare, charity and environmental protection. Section 8 company can be registered both as a private limited company or a public limited company.

Trust is incorporated as a legal entity where the owner or “trustor” transfers his assets to the second party or “trustee” for the benefit of the third party or “beneficiary”. There are two types of trust - Public Trust and Private Trust. Public Trust is created to provide benefit to the general public, and Private Trust is created to benefit a particular group of individuals.
