Melon seeds imports are Restricted, except during DGFT-notified windows or under an Import Authorisation.

Under this system, the importer is required to register the import information and obtain an Automatic Registration Number (ARN), which is required to be shared at the time of customs clearance. This system allows prior registration of import details while facilitating imports under certain policy norms. Importers and exporters of plants and seeds can also refer to the IEC Registration for Plants & Seeds for applicable international trade requirements.

• IMS registration must be completed within 10 days from the date of Bill of Lading in case of Melon seeds and within 7 days in case of Yellow Peas
• Separate ARN is required for each country of origin and port combination, new ARN must be obtained if either of these changes
• Details such as import documents, ARN records, FSSAI license copies and BoL copies among others must be retained for 5 years from the date of import
