What is ZED Certification?
(ZED) Certification program is an ongoing initiative to teach MSMEs about Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) practices, encourage them to become MSME Champions, and motivate and reward them for doing so. Through the ZED certification process , MSMEs may significantly decrease waste, boost productivity, disseminate awareness of environmental concerns, conserve energy, make the best use of the resources at their disposal, gain market share, etc.
The ZED Certification aims to improve an MSME's competitiveness through evaluation, assistance, management, technical intervention, etc. The ZED Certification is more than just a certification.
Level-wise Importance for ZED certificate
ZED certificate is further divided down into 3 categories. Below are the levels of importance for each certification level:
1.Importance for Bronze certificate
The importance of the bronze certificate can be summarized as follows.
- Symbol of excellence and sustainability: It is recognized as a symbol of excellence and sustainability. ZED Bronze is a globally known mark of sustainability and quality that can help MSMEs gain consumer confidence in their goods and services. This is particularly important in the global economy where consumers are seeking high-quality, ecologically responsible products and services.
- Improved production and quality: MSMEs would benefit from the improvement in production and quality. The process of obtaining ZED Bronze helps MSMEs to identify areas of improvement for quality and productivity enhancement. Consequently, the defects, waste, and rework will decrease, thus saving money for MSMEs and improving the bottom line.
- Easier entry into new markets: The ZED Bronze certification can facilitate MSMEs entering into new local and international markets. This is because suppliers and buyers all over the world accept the certificate.
- Helps in regulatory compliance: It can help MSMEs in adhering to regulations. ZED Bronze certification can help MSMEs in adhering to a variety of regulations relating to quality, safety, and the environment. This can support MSMEs in avoiding fines and penalties and will also help them to win the confidence of authorities.
- Boosts staff morale and productivity: This can help MSMEs to increase production by boosting the morale of their staff. The ZED Bronze certification process can assist MSMEs in building a more supportive and effective work environment. This is because the process involves identifying and remedying possible opportunities for employees to be more committed and engaged in their job. As a result, more productivity with high staff morale could occur, which would be helpful for the whole organization.
2. Importance for Silver certificate
The importance of Silver certificate can be summarized as follows:
- It is a higher level of recognition than the ZED Bronze certificate. The ZED Silver certificate is given to MSMEs who have attained a higher level of quality and sustainability because it is recognized at a higher level than the ZED Bronze certificate. This can help MSMEs gain more clients and business partners, as well as enable them to charge more for their goods and services.
- It can help MSMEs to improve their quality and productivity even further. MSMEs must go above and beyond the standards for the ZED Bronze certification in order to complete the ZED Silver certification procedure. As a result, MSMEs that receive the ZED Silver accreditation are probably even more productive and of higher quality than those who received the ZED Bronze certificate.
- It can help MSMEs to access even more markets. In terms of comparison, even more suppliers and customers accept the ZED Silver certificate than the ZED Bronze certificate. As a result, MSMEs who get the ZED Silver certification are likely to have access to even more markets, both locally and abroad.
- It can help MSMEs to comply with even more regulations. MSMEs must adhere to even more rules in order to receive a ZED Silver certification than they do for a ZED Bronze one. As a result, MSMEs that receive the ZED Silver certification are at a lower risk of paying fines or suffering other consequences for non-compliance.
- It can help MSMEs to improve their employee morale and productivity even further. The ZED Silver certification procedure requires MSMEs to include their staff even more in the process of enhancing quality and sustainability. Employee morale and productivity may rise as a result, which would be beneficial for the organization as a whole.

3.Importance for Gold certificate
The importance of a Gold certificate can be summarized as follows:
- Highest level of recognition: It is the highest level of recognition under the ZED scheme. The ZED Gold certificate is the highest degree of recognition available under the ZED scheme, and MSMEs who have attained the highest standards of quality and sustainability are given it. MSMEs may benefit from this by attracting more clients and business partners, as well as by being able to charge more for their goods and services.
- Enables higher levels of quality and productivity: It will further enable the MSMEs to achieve even higher levels of quality and productivity. The ZED Gold certification necessitates MSMEs to go beyond the requirements needed to attain the ZED Silver and Bronze certificates. It thus follows that the MSMEs attaining the ZED Gold certificate are more likely to be at an even higher level of quality and productivity compared to the ones accorded to the ZED Silver or Bronze certificate.
- Access to demanding markets: It also provides a helping hand to MSMEs in entering the most demanding markets. The ZED Gold certificate is well-known among the most demanding buyers and suppliers. In this light, MSMEs that achieve the ZED Gold certificate may probably have access to the most demanding markets both domestically and internationally.
- Helps in complete regulatory compliance: It also enables MSMEs to obtain complete compliance with the strictest regulations. MSMEs must follow strict rules as part of the procedural going through when obtaining a ZED Gold certification. This means MSMEs receiving the ZED Gold certificate are less likely to face fines or other penalties for non-compliance.
- Enhances employee morale and productivity: It can help MSMEs achieve the highest levels of employee morale and productivity. MSMEs need to engage more with their staff in the process of enhancing quality and sustainability to achieve ZED Gold accreditation. This may lead to increased productivity and morale from the staff, which would be beneficial for the whole business.

The ZED Certification Scheme of MSMEs is one of the most remarkable steps toward promoting excellence, sustainability, and competitiveness for small and medium-sized enterprises. The program prepares MSMEs with the requisite knowledge and skills to become competent players in a fiercely competitive business environment by motivating them to adopt quality management principles and environmental sustainability.
