• DC Motors:These convert direct current into mechanical energy and therefore are generally used where speed control is needed.
• Brushless DC Motors: These motors do not require the use of brushes thus improving their efficiency, they also require less maintenance.
• Stepper Motors: In precision applications, stepper motors are used because they operate incrementally, with high accuracy.
• Universal Motors: These motors are able to switch between AC and DC supply and are commonly used in most home appliances.
• Alternators: A category of synchronous generator that makes alternating current (AC) electrical energy out of mechanical energy and is well-known for use in motor vehicles.

Of course, besides gears, other transmission elements, including chains and sprockets, screws, and nuts, namely ball screws, and roller screws, are important in machinery.
